Sunday marked the beginning of LOVE MORE ... EXPECT LESS. at The Community Fellowship , and it started with a bang. We gave away a couple thousand dollars with the understanding that the 70 people who became part of our GIVE BACK challenge must report how God uses the money that was entrusted to them. I cannot wait to see the results and what God does.
What astounds me most and gets me excited is to listen to people talk about ways to bless and encourage others. This goes a long way. In fact, in a conversation this morning, I remember that it is easier to get people passionate about something than it is to get them to give to something. So, I am praying that our church family gets more and more passionate about demonstrating the love of God to our community. That is not so easy, but this is awesome. God is working big time.
This is the season of giving. That is just the way it is. It is also the season when you can talk about Jesus and the meaning of Christmas without getting in trouble. Remember that.
But with all this giving we have to stop and ask some questions. Are we giving to make ourselves feel good or for some other wrong reason? Another tough question: are we digging ourselves deeper into debt to give this season? Last: what does God think about this kind of giving?
This is a day when people are in need all around us. Don't think so? Stop and look. At the store. Going down the street. And more. What are we willing to do about it?
1 John 3:17 (nlt) --- If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God's love be in that person?
I intend to challenge you and me today to give more this Christmas season. Our Mission Offering is a great place to do that, but the best way to do this is through ARK's (acts of random kindness). Buy someone a meal. Pay a bill for someone who cannot. If you are in the drive-thru at the fast food place, buy the person behind you meal. Do something. Do it in the name of Jesus.
As our small group was brain storming last night we came up with lots of ways to spread God's love through "Give Back" and ARK's. Some of them that don't hit right at first. One is through the fact that not everyone who has a need has a money need. Maybe you need to do something for someone who has it all together (or so it seems) but their hearts are not turned toward Jesus. THINK. Use this season. Use what you have been blessed with to let someone see Jesus. Be creative.
Give, give and give some more. Why?
Matthew 5:16 (nasb) --- Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
