Have you noticed that the closer you get to God and hearing His voice that His call and mission on your life gets more specific? Yet I believe one of the flaws of the modern church is that we try to do more than God called us to do. Does that make sense?
God called The Community Fellowship to demonstrate the love of God to community through serving and sharing Him. That's it. We are to find ways to get the attention of our community, to serve people and to share His saving truth. He didn't call us to fill our building. He didn't call us to meet every need or answer every question or have every kind of worship service. We are to be just who He called us to be.
1 John 3:16 (nlt) --- We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
Colossians 1:8 (nlt) --- He has told us about the love for others that the Holy Spirit has given
Galatians 5:13 (nlt) --- For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
I close the week by quoting from Dino Rizzo's book Servolution because this is my heart for serving our community and letting people see Jesus in and through our serving. Will you join me? Read on:
How we serve:
The goal of our servolution has always been to demonstrate the love of Jesus, not to make people feel like they now owed it to us to come to a serve. Don't get me wrong, we tried our best to be sure to tell them where we were from so they would know that ultimately it was God who was blessing the. But regardless of whether they ever walked into our church, we wanted them to understand that both God and our church loved and believed in them. (pages 32-33)
What happens when we serve:
We were all having so much fun as a church ... everyone was involved because of their passion to serve others, and that generated energy that was contagious. When people discover the blessing of serving together, you've got the markings of servolution. The more we as a church bonded in a common mission, the more others wanted to come and be part of the excitement. (page 35)
Why we serve:
When we give with no strings attached, it shows that our love is authentic, motivated not by our needs but by meeting the needs of others. (page 36)
It's your turn. Why are you serving the people around you? Some of you need this question: why are you NOT serving those people around you? Those quotes and what God has on my heart makes me want to serve more and more. How about you?
