the text of Christmas truth

I am excited about Christmas.  There are so many parts of this time of the year that I love.  For some reason the weather doesn’t seem to be cooperating as it has been in the 60’s.  If I talk about snow, some of you might get mad.

So, I wanted to give us a few verses to think through as we head into the weekend before Christmas.  Read on, celebrate Jesus and make Jesus famous!

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth,

This next passage might not relate to Christmas, but I believe this is Jesus.  It is His core as Savior and Servant.  Further, it is what God calls us to.

4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges ;
he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

May God help us celebrate Christmas, be like Jesus and help many people see that real hope comes from outside ourselves and outside of our earth and only through God.
