|one of the University of Alabama's equipment managers|
I was at a Christmas dinner recently and met a man and his wife that are involved in ministry at a church a couple towns east of us. He shared with me that their son got a great scholarship to be part of an athletic program at a large university. What surprised me was his sport.
He tried to play football in high school and liked baseball. But he didn’t play either. After struggling with football because he was so small the coach asked him to work as one of the team’s managers. This young man did such a great job as a manager of the football team that the baseball coach sought him out to manage his team as well. So went his high school career. When talk of college came up, they were shocked at the offers because of the enthusiasm, passion and great work this young man did as a manager of his high school teams.
A manager is an important part of the team. Maybe you remember that from the teams you have been on or from movies that you have seen. A great football team has to have people in every position. The same is true for every team and every sport. And every one of those teams has to have great support people like a coach or coaches, managers and others.
Are you a member of a great team? Great teams that I have seen or been a part of are those where people understand their roles and play them well. If everyone does his or her part, the entire team is successful.
1 Corinthians 12:22 NASB
On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;
1 Peter 4:10 NASB
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Ephesians 4:16 NASB
from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
I am grateful for the people on the team that I lead and am part of. There is the dude that serves in leadership who is so passionate about what God is in doing in his life. Another leader is a part of helping new people get involved in the ministry that she is part of. Another member stepped up recently to help something happen in a big way those no one else could get done. There is also this other lady who has filled a role that no one else was doing, and she has made a big difference as well as led several people to meet Jesus.
Each member of the team is important. Whether you are the quarterback or the manager, the pastor or the custodian, the writer of encouragement cards or the receptionist, you are a vital part of the team. Do your part, play your position, encourage others to do their part, share your passion and your excitement, and help your team find success and win. Be a member of a great team.
