Here is an interesting post in Wikipedia:
Is the glass half empty or half full? is a common expression, used rhetorically to indicate that a particular situation could be a cause for optimism (half full) or pessimism (half empty), or as a general litmus test to simply determine an individual's worldview. The purpose of the question is to demonstrate that the situation may be seen in different ways depending on one's point of view and that there may be opportunity in the situation as well as trouble.
This idiom is used to explain how people perceive events and objects. Perception is unique to every individual and is simply one's interpretation of reality. The phrase "Is the glass half empty or half full" can be referred to as a philosophical question.
Perspective is a big deal. One of my mentors, Herb Hodges, told the story of a great painter who was painting a special portrait of a beautiful woman. Upon examination she noticed be painted a huge bug over her face. The woman turned to the painter and noticed a bug on his glasses. From his perspective there was a bug on her face.
We can look at things from all different kind of views. Light makes a difference in the way we see things. Even our spiritual life makes a difference in how we look at life.
Walking through the store or simply in every day life we come across many different people. How we see those people means a lot. Are we looking for the potential that God has placed in people’s lives, or are we writing people off when they are not like us or do things that seem stupid? God looks at things a bit different than we do.
Luke 18:27 NLT
He replied, “What is impossible for people is possible with God.”
Romans 16:25 NLT
Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as my Good News says…
1 Samuel 16:7 NLT
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
May God help us see the glass as half full. May we see and call the potential out of people that we meet each day. God can take what seems unless and make it useful. God will take what we throw away and make it beautiful and strong once again.
So, remember this … God loves people and will make something great out of everyone who comes to Him.
