This has been a theme that our church has been talking about since the beginning of the year.  But it is really something that has been a conviction of mine for over 20 years.  When someone asks you to pray for them or when you see a need, stop and pray right then.

It could be as simple as a friend telling you about their situation and you feel you ought to pray for them.  Stop and pray.  It could be when you see an accident or know of a difficult situation going on.  Stop and pray.  Maybe someone asks you to pray for them, and your normal reaction is to say you will pray and do it later.  Because we are human and forget, we may never pray.  That is a good reason to stop and pray at that moment.

Praying does something that is awesome and will radically change the way you and I think, respond and serve.  Mark Batterson, author of The Circle Maker and In A Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day, shared that when we focus on something that creates a category in our minds that helps us be more in tune to what we have focused on.  It is similar to when you get a new ring tone on your phone, and you think no one else has the same tone.  Then you start hearing it everywhere.  Or it is like when you notice a specific clothing or car that you like.  You notice it once, and then you start seeing it often.

When we pray and continue to pray, our mind begins to remind us often because our choosing to pray opens our senses to things we weren’t noticing before.  As we seek God we grow, and God will open us so we can serve, bless and encourage other people in greater ways.  That happens just because we chose to stop and pray.

Acts 20:36  NLT
When he had finished speaking, he knelt and prayed with them.

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,

Prayer is a way of serving others.  There are times when we need to give to meet a need or feed something who is hungry, but one of the most important things we can do is to pray.  In fact I believe that the reason why you think about prayer is because God begins it to your mind.  Satan wouldn’t encourage you to pray.

Make a difference.  Stop and pray.  Help the people around you see God.  Stop and pray.  Focus your heart, your mind, and your strength on God.  Stop and pray.

Psalm 65:5  NLT
You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas.
