I am sharing with you today via my e-devotion about our great people at the church I get to be pastor of. It is our weekly “volunteer of the week” post. My heart overflows with gratitude for their love and hard work. Partnering with people who want to serve is something I cherish big time. Read on and be blessed!
This week we honor our volunteer team from back2school 2014 as The Community Fellowship’s Volunteer(s) of the Week!
John 12:26 NLT
Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.
If you were at any of the five churches where back2school 2014 took place, you had to notice the awesome team members that made this event possible. Another thing you noticed is at each church was that there were volunteers from lots of other churches and organizations. Some people you knew already, and some people you didn’t.
From the story that was told by some great people, as well as by Manny Ohonme himself, to our peeps in the shoe store or foot washing area to the hair cutting gurus or clothes closet workers to those checking students in or the people serving the volunteers… everyone played an important part in making the students and families we served feel loved and helping them see God and His love in action.
We want to say “thank you” and “well done” to all of the people who served at The Community Fellowship during back2school 2014. There were numerous churches represented with over 250 volunteers many of whom arrived before 7am and left late in the afternoon. Each helped do what it took to honor God and get the job done.
Many of you have heard of or maybe seen a picture posted on Facebook of Catrina Lawless. She has been battling cancer for some time, and last week she got some difficult news. But Catrina and her daughter, Ashlyn, were side by side washing feet and sharing the hope of Jesus.
Another of our great team members was Aliyah, Lynn Chaney’s daughter who is going into 6th grace. She worked with our hair cutters by sweeping the floor and keeping the area clean. She also escorted children and their families to the next area where they were to get their shoes. Aliyah was very friendly and a blessing to everyone she interacted with, as well as to those who were blessed watching her minister to others.
One of our sweetest team members was Helen Joyce who worked in the book bag area. Helen, as always, was a great encourager to the other volunteers and shows the love of God to everyone she encounters.
Carolyn Holland worked in the shoe area and was instrumental in seeing to it that the children got the right sized shoes and socks. Carolyn is part of the team going to Nicaragua from our church the end of this month. At back2school and as always, she had a smile on her face for the volunteers, children and their families.
Barbara Nichols and Sara Deskins helped to put the children's school clothes in bags for them after they'd shopped in our clothes closet. Both ladies talked with the children, complimented their choices and made them feel welcome and loved.
We could go on and on telling you about our awesome team, but we don’t have enough time to write, and you won’t read another 5,000 paragraphs. It is such a blessing to be able to serve others. Alone we can serve a few people, but as a team, a big team, we can serve hundreds and even thousands.
Last weekend over 650 students were served at The Community Fellowship through back2school and all of them, and their families, saw the love of God in action. That is why the church exists. That is what we are challenged to do. That is what we do well together.
To each of our volunteers, from our church leaders, church staff and from our community, thank you for giving of your time and your heart to make a difference in the lives of others. You honored God big time!
