fasting challenge

I also challenged our family and friends to begin fasting for more.  God has more for His people and His church.  We see it wrapped up in the lives of the people we encounter especially in the outreach work we get to bless people with (like this coming Saturday’s Mother’s Day Car Care Clinic).  Will you join us in this challenge?

Choose one day or one meal or even something else to pull away from and focus on God and the needs around us.  Whatever you choose to fast from and whenever you choose to fast is fair game.  You make that call, but spend some time seeking God for God’s work in your community and ours.  Please pray for the needs in construction/renovating our new campus as we know God will provide.

Here are some guidelines for fasting:

Matthew 6:16-18,31-33  NLT
And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. 17 But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. 18 Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you…31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

It really is between you and God.  Whenever you realize that you are in the presence of God, you are worshipping.  God is with us all the time.  The older I get, the more I long for His presence and really enjoy what God says during that time.

Fasting may just take you and us to the next level with Him.  There is the promise of verse 33.  If we seek God, we will be rewarded.  If we seek God for the wrong reasons, we already have our reward which is hallow and almost useless.  With humility and joy, seek God.  Great days are ahead.

With you fast with me?  I’m not asking for you to tell me your commitment.  I am asking you to connect with God and spend time in His presence.  Take the challenge.  Be part of what God does!
