John 17:22 NLT
I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one.
When people come together for a common cause, the outcome is deeper reaching impact. The #back2school outreach has proven that statement true for several years, and this year proved it once again.
Churches from several different denominations and areas came together to share the love of God with students and their families. Several people accepted Jesus. Many families were blessed and received items that will help their children be ready for a successful school year.
There is a beautiful picture of God wants His church to be. I am not talking about a particular church in a specific location. I believe that the church, all people who have accepted Jesus, is the expression and life of Jesus making a difference in the world today.
Sunday night at the back2school celebration several people from the partner churches said this very thing. We have chosen to put down our labels for a common goal, and as a team we were successful. God received the glory in big ways. I cannot tell you how exciting this is to me, and I believe it honors God from every one of our particular churches.
Ephesians 4:16 NLT
He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
Church of God. Pentecostal Holiness. Baptist. Southern Baptist. Assembly of God. Independent Baptist. Church of the Brethren. Non denominational. Methodist. Presbyterian. Apostolic. Christian Disciples of Christ. Catholic. Biker churches. Traditional churches. Non traditional churches. English special churches. Spanish speaking churches. White churches. Black churches. Racially mixes churches. Big churches. Little churches. City churches. Country churches. Some people who aren’t involved in church. And the list goes on.
All as one. Each of the more than 500 volunteers chose to work together, and that is a statement to our community that is sounds loud and clear. The church is for hurting people. We aren’t always against things. We are for people. We are willing to put down our differences and our struggles so that we can work together, as one.
This challenges me that we must do this more and more. We can challenge our friends to come together for a great cause and make a difference in our community and in the world. We must act in unison pointing people to God.
By serving together great things happened. By working as one we helped more students than we could have helped alone. There is more to come. Will you join in next time?
The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.
