One of the points of the advent season is LOVE. Christmas depicts for us the love of God seen in the son of God. Real love is found in God. In February 2013 I shared the following post that is full of the truth about real love. As you read on I pray we learn to be love and to loved…
God defines love. We might try or the culture might try to define what love is or how love acts, but anything a part from the love of God will fall way short of the love that God has for us and calls us to have for others.
The Bible gives us a glimpse of God’s love. It leads us to experience God and how much He loves us through what He has done and what God says is true about us. Take a few minutes to digest the following verses as I believe that the Bible stands on it’s own
1 John 3:1 NLT
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.
John 3:16 NLT
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
1 John 4:18-19 NLT
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first.
2 Timothy 1:13 NLT
Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus.
John 13:35 NLT
Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.
2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
Ephesians 5:2 NLT
Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
Father, teach us to love as you love. May we be a living expression of how you love us. Help us to accept others and to love without judgment or shame. Thank you for not holding back, or push us away, or require what we aren’t able to be or give or do. You are love. Your love is perfect, and I ask that you change me so that I come to know your perfect love that has and is changing me. That is real love. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
