vote today

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.

I am an American.  I am also a Christian.  Those two things do go together, and it is not because all Americans are Christian.  I am an American because I was born in the United States of America.  I am a Christian because Jesus forgave my sins, and I accepted that truth for me.

Because I am a Christian and an American I want to share what I believe with others.  It is important that we do what we believe is right and share with others.  Doing what is right is not always the popular thing to do, but it is always right.

We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.

Today is Election Day.  We have the awesome right to speak our mind by voting.  This is one of our rights as an American.  In our country we have the responsibility as well as the honor of voting.  In some places around the world Christians are persecuted and oppressed.  We really are blessed, and that is one more reason why we must do what is right.  I challenge you to vote today as a good citizen and as a Christian who takes our responsibility seriously.

Upright citizens are good for a city and make it prosper, but the talk of the wicked tears it apart.

There are many reasons why I believe the Bible asserts that we should be part of the process and vote.  As the verse I began with today voting shows that we submit ourselves to the government.  All of us have an opinion, but many people are just louder.  I believe that if we do not vote that we don’t have the right to complain about the things we don't like.  Another reason we should vote is to honor all the people who have fought and died for our freedom.  When we vote, we chose to be part of the process that reveals God’s choice in our nation, locally and beyond.

Finally, it is important that we as Christians vote because what happens in our community and in our nation really does matter.  We are accountable to God to live by faith.  By casting my vote, as I will today, says that I care about our country and that I believe God is working through the process.

Exercise your right.  Share your faith.  Go vote today.

Note: this post was first shared in November of 2014 and remains true today.
