dead battery? // Friday E-Devotion

“Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise…” Colossians 3:16 (NLT)

What a day! It is planned from beginning to end and full. Yet I go out to start my vehicle, and nothing happens. I get jump started, and an hour later it is dead again. This could ruin my day or make me stop and think. What does a dead battery do to our day?

We could let this do so many different things, but what we have to do is let God fill us. Maybe you are going through a big battle of some kind. Maybe you are depressed or low. Maybe life just stinks. Don’t let the dead batteries of life kill what God is doing in your heart. Let God fill you, speak to you, minister to you and use you to be a blessing to others.

God doesn’t waste a hurt or difficultly in your life. He uses for His purposes (see Romans 8:28). Even if we don’t like it or end up crying, God is still God and still in control.

“The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on, you will be at war.” 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NLT)

“Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

“We also pray that you will be strengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy” Colossians 1:11 (NLT)

No matter when the dead batteries come, God will recharge me and you…as we let Him. This is just a reminder! Don’t let the dead battery ruin your day.

As I sit here waiting for AAA, I was encouraged by a friend to have a mini-devotion. I Googled "devotion for a dead battery" and got your blog. Thank you for the reminder of God's blessings!

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
