Jesus set the example that we are to serve. He gave us the who, what, how and much more about how to love people the way that God loves people. By serving, we share the heart of who our God is.

Jesus' example hits me hard in this passage of Scripture:
John 13:3-5,12-15 (NASB) --- Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself. Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
… So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? "You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. "If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. "For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.
Jesus knew his time was about up. Not long until his arrest and his death. But Jesus chose to serve. He told those closest to Him that they were to serve those around them just as he washed their feet. Serving means getting our hands dirt sometimes. It can mean getting on our hands and knees and doing uncomfortable things and so much more. Jesus was willing to do that.
Jesus was willing to serve anyone. One of the people that he served this day was Judas. This was the disciple that betrayed Jesus. Jesus knew it already. But still Jesus served Him.
We must be willing to serve everyone and to show other what the love of God looks like. Even the people that hurt us, even the people we love, even the people we disagree with, even the people that we are not close to, even the people that we think should be serving us ... Jesus said we are to serve them all!
Are you doing that? Ask yourself: what am I going to do this week to serve someone and show them Jesus?
During the sermon Sunday one of our folks interrupted me and read a note from a lady who has been attending our church. The note was about our SERVolution outreach last year that she was touched by. We touch people when we serve them. Begin to serve now. Between now and Easter, once or twice a week, serve people no matter what it takes. Give of yourself to show others what Jesus is like!
Matthew 20:28 (NASB) --- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
