see needs & serve

Deuteronomy 12:28
(NASB) --- "Be careful to listen to all these words which I command you, so that it may be well with you and your sons after you forever, for you will be doing what is good and right in the sight of the LORD your God.

God has so much in store for the people who listen to and follow what He says.  Our obedience equals blessing in our lives AND in the lives of other people we are around.  Blessing our families, our friends, neighbors and even future generations.

Think about that.  Our choices today will impact people for years to come.  By the grace of God, we can serve in strong ways and with confidence.  Much like Joshua after Moses was gone and how God gave Him words to live by that will impact God's people receiving God's promises for a long time to come.  I want that kind of success.  How about you?

Joshua 1:7-8
(NASB) --- "Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go.  " This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

How we see people will allow us to make a huge difference in this world we live.  Answer this: how do you see people?  Maybe a better question is this: do you see people?

Philippians 2:4
(NASB) --- do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

We have a God who love us and wants to help us.  He sees our needs and He loves us.  He hears our prayers and wants to help us.  Remember this!

Exodus 3:7-8 (NLT) ---  Then the Lord told him, "I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering.  So I have come down to rescue them…

Jesus SAW PEOPLE and was moved with compassion to do something about their situation.  We too must be moved with compassion, but we first have to see people.  I like David's prayer …

Ephesians 1:18
(NASB) --- I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Jesus is our example.  He saw needs and did something about it.  Here is one of my favorite words from Jesus about what He saw.  We must learn from Jesus!

Matthew 9:36-38 (NLT) --- When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.   He said to his disciples, "The harvest is great, but the workers are few.   So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields."

We are called to demonstrate the love of GOD to our community.  That is our motto and purpose at The Community Fellowship.  But that is really God's call for all of our lives.

It is vital that we see needs and seize opportunities to meet needs that are around us.  God has called us to serve and care for others just as He has served and cared for us.

I pray that we will see as God sees and serve as Jesus served.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
