check your attitude

Check your attitude.  Maybe you have heard that a lot in your lot.  Or maybe you need to hear it from time to time.  I do.  Often my circumstances take me to places I don't want to go.  Good intensions for sure.  But poor follow through maybe?  Listen up…

Proverbs 4:23
(NLT) --- Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Ecclesiastes offers us a new view into humanity and into our own souls.  We live in a broken world.  People in this world and in our community are hurting in so many ways.  Some we can help with and some we can't.  But there is no way we can make a difference until we understand what is going on around us.

But wait.  What is going on around us is often what's going on OR HAS GONE ON inside of us.  Get honest about that.  Think through where you are and where you want to be.  How have you experienced the love of God?  Do you want to experience it?  Do you have a desire to help others experience God?  If so, we need to understand the people we are dealing and understand ourselves.

Far too many people, including us, think we are all alone.  That is a lie from Satan, our enemy.  His plan is to keep us to knowing God and knowing God's truth.  When we are honest with the people around us, we learn that others have been where we are.  Through the pain and the struggle.  Dealt with the feelings, the depression and stress.  We are not alone.

Realizing this truth we see how we help others.  I love this …

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NLT) ---
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

We NEED each other.  Get that and let it work in you.  Tough times are coming if they are not there yet.  What happens when we help others?  It is incredible … then you have someone to lift you up (verse10), someone to keep you warm (verse 11), and someone to stick up for you (verse 12).

Jude 1:20
(NLT) --- But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith,…

God will keep us humble as we listen to Him, see our place and call in life and deeply depend on Him.  As we get honest about where we are, share with others and help them, life will change which is so good.

1 Peter 3:8 (NLT) --- Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.

Keep on connecting with God and watching Him work.  There are bigger and better things to come.  But first we all need this word: CHECK YOUR ATTITUDE!

James 4:8
(NLT) --- Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
