incredible moments with Jesus

Mark 12:41-44 nlt

Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on."

It must have been awesome to be around Jesus when He walked the earth with His disciples.  There were huge moments of learning.  There were moments you had to cry because of the broken people Jesus dealt with.  There were times you needed a notebook or a laptop to take notes from what Jesus said and did.

One of those incredible moments with Jesus was when they sat in the temple and were watching people give.  The Scripture is above.  Some of the people gave big offerings.  Some gave small ones.  Some people gave with their hearts while others gave out of convenience. The lady that they saw give was different.

I picture her as an older lady who had lived her life.  You have met some like this before.  Her family had been through struggles.  They had experienced death, heart ache and lost.  They had plenty at some times and very little at others.  This lady knew what it was to life for Jesus.  Her heart leaped out of her chest when she was able to give.  2 small coins.  It was a small offering.  But Jesus said she gave everything.

I am looking for people who will give everything.  That is who Jesus was looking for and is looking for.  Remember the young rich dude who came to Jesus asking how to get eternal life?  His money was keeping this man from serving God.  The people Jesus met were people desperate and who found what they needed when they gave it all to God.  They has incredible moments with Jesus.

Giving all we have may not mean writing a check to empty your bank account.  But it might.  Giving it all might not mean selling your house or your car.  But it might.  Giving everything may not mean moving to another part of the word for God.  But it might.  It is a matter of the heart.

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.
Paul said that he learned to be content whether he had a lot or he had nothing.  Have we learned that?  When we have incredible moments with Jesus, we will learn what it is to be content. 

The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.

We owe everything to God.  We really do.  This little lady understand that truth.  Have you had incredible moments with Jesus that have led you to be a generous giver?  People who have been with Jesus are known by what they do and what they have become.  

I long for incredible moments with Jesus that shape my life.  How about you?

Amen. It's not so much giving all we have, but giving all that God would have us give--and with the right heart.

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
