share His love .... BINGO!!!

Every day God gives us opportunities to share His love with the people we come in contact with, yet often we miss those opportunities simply because we are not looking for them.  What an honor it is to be part of The Community Fellowship where we don't apologize for telling people what God has done for us.  This weekend is no different.  There are awesome opportunities for us!

Saturday morning from 9am until noon is our 2nd Saturday FREE community meal and clothes closet.  Will you be on the volunteer team that will help this be a successful event?  Shannon Hatcher needs some help in the kitchen, and Terri Hensley needs help in our clothes closet.  Please arrive at 8:30 to be part of the team.  Know some people who are hungry and/or need clothes?  Pass the word, bring them to church and demonstrate the love of God to our community through sharing these tangible gifts.

Another way we demonstrate the love of God to our community each Saturday evening is through the WE H.O.P.E. free community meal.  If you would like to join this team, see Wayne Martin or another one of our leaders.  If you know someone that is hungry, encourage them to come to the Gazebo in Uptown Martinsville near the corner of Depot and Franklin Streets at 5pm each Saturday.  There is also a need to give to help this ministry.

Friday evening at 7pm our student ministry will host BINGO giving people a chance to win products from THIRTY-ONE.  Teens need to arrive about 6:30 to help.  It is $20 to play 20 games.  All proceeds help our student ministry and everyone is invited to come out, have fun and win some awesome prizes.

Sunday is the end of our series JESUS IS __________, and you don't want to miss the culmination of all we have heard about Jesus.  Who is Jesus to you?  How have you experienced Him?  Join us and bring people with you this Sunday at 10:10am as we explore one more time this subject.  There might even be some special surprises.  Our next series is "7".  That's right "7".  (HINT: how old is The Community Fellowship?)  Get ready for something new, something incredible and for more than we've ever seen or had before!!!

Want to study the Bible with some friends?  Join a community group this Sunday evening.  The Bassett group will begin once again this Sunday, and for information listen in worship or see Lee Hobbs or Lynn Chaney for details.  You can also join the group that meets at our new campus at 6pm as we study the book of John.  All are invited to this great time of fellowship and learning.

This Sunday evening our student ministry will be going to the See You At the Pole Rally at Mt. Calvary Church in Axton, VA.  Yvonne Elgin will be taking our students to this great event and leaving The Community Fellowship at 5pm.  See Yvonne for more details!

Our new campus is coming together, and your church leadership team asks you to join us in preparing the property and in raising money to get the property and buildings ready for us to move in.  You can give to the VISION FUND at any time.  We simply ask that you continue to tithe and give your offering to church, but as we are doing give over and above your tithe to the VISION FUND.  Write vision fund on your check or on an envelope at church (mail your gifts to TCF, PO Box 388, Collinsville, VA 24078).  Thank you for helping us reach this goal and to prepare us to demonstrate the love of God to our community in bigger and stronger ways to more and more people.  You can also help with preparing the campus by working there each Saturday beginning at 9am, or at other times.  See Kasim Adams for more details.

How can you share God's love with others today?  Watch to see who God brings your way.  Buy someone a cup of coffee or a meal.  Go visit a neighbor.  Mow someone's grass.  Do something to serve others.  Literally this selfless act may be the one thing that draws someone to God.

See you this weekend at The Community Fellowship.  And may God use each of us to demonstrate the love of God to community in great ways in the next few days!

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
