it's time for the COMMUNITY to spring forward

This winter season has gone on and on, and this email comes your way we are recovering from another snow that dropped almost 5 inches of snow in Collinsville.  It really is time for us to spring forward.

Sunday is the beginning of Daylight Savings time which means we are to change our clocks Saturday night by turning them forward one hour.  That's right.  We gain an hour of sunshine each evening.  We are ready for spring and for winter to be gone.  Pass the word so you and others are not late for church Sunday morning at 10:10am.

Yes.  We have had snow, but we will be having our 2nd Saturday FREE Community Meal and Clothes closet tomorrow from 9am until noon.  Volunteers arrive at 8:30, and extra volunteers are needed as some of our regulars won't be able to help due to weather concerns.  Our REACH Ministry will also have the Saturday FREE MEAL at the Martinsville Hotel at 5pm as we do every Saturday.  See Wayne Martin to be part of REACH ministry.

Sunday continues our COME TOGETHER series, and Acts 3 and 4 will open thoughts about having courage in the midst of opportunities.  Invite someone to come to church with you tomorrow.  Last Sunday two people accepted Jesus as their Savior, and we are praying for more people to accept Jesus this weekend.

Join us for a Sunday Night @ The Community at 6pm on March 16th and 23rd.  We are kicking off more and stronger Community Groups.  In our Community Groups, small group Bible studies that meet on various nights, are intended to strengthen us as a church by serving the people who attend church with us.  We hope to kick start at least three new groups.  These community groups are also the place where we are going to do local mission projects.

Our Nicaragua Mission Team is getting ready for our trip that will be happening the first week of September.  Your help is needed.  Pray for the mission team.  Give to help the team get there.  Each Sunday we are selling foot prints that are placed on the walls of the church.  It is 3,200 miles to the place we are going, and our goal is to sell 3,200 foot prints.  They are $1 each.  It costs about $1,400 per person to go on this trip.  Will you help?  April 12th is the Feeding Central Virginia event, and your help is needed to put together packs of food for thousands of people across our region.

The end of this month is our time to serve with Raceway Ministries Martinsville.  Over 100 volunteers are needed to assist thousands of race fans that come to town and share Jesus as we meet their needs.  If you would like to be part of this work March, 28, 29 and 30, sign up this Sunday or see Lee Hobbs.

This past week some of our back2school team members were part of our local FAST TRACK trade show.  We are preparing for the strongest and best back2school outreach event that we have ever had.  Saturday, August 2nd is set as our big event.  Registration dates are July 12th and 22nd.  We are looking for sponsors and for donations.  Take a look at our new website www.goback2school.info or call 276-565-8234.  Get ready now to help thousands of kids across our region of the world!

We look forward to seeing each of you this weekend at The Community as we strive to demonstrate the love of God to our community and beyond.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
