Therefore,
since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay
aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us
run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who
for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat
down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners
against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Those verses have been close to my
heart for a long time. They explain some
of the things that are the toughest parts of being a Christian.
So many things in life would be easier
if our focus was only on God. The things
that trip us up and keep us from following God can be dealt with by making
better choices. By dealing with sin we
can pursue God with more strength and passion.
The problems that keep us from pursuing
God don’t have to stay with us. By
applying what God says those problems will change. We have people pulling for us. By fixing our eyes on Jesus we will have an
accurate view of our God.
Sin trips us up. Wrong choices keep us from following
God. Jesus paid the price for our wrong,
and that fact will help us stay strong.
I found the following quote that makes
a lot of sense to me:
Praise
is the antidote to Panic. Worship is the
remedy to worry. --- Rick Warren
May our lives be
found focusing on Jesus and dealing well with our struggles.
