The cross. This is one of those subjects that makes all of us uncomfortable. When you really understand the gravity and what the cross meant for Jesus and for us, it will hit your heart in a big way.
This quote is from my devotion today: You cannot fully understand the cross unless you understand why it was necessary.
For our salvation, for the forgiveness of sin, the cross was necessary. What we could not do or could not supply on our own God gave. Actually, that was God’s plan from the start.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
Jesus is the person of our salvation. He was the substitute for our sin. His blood and sacrifice is the covering and cleansing of our sin. The cross removed the separation of us and God. Without the cross, we are in trouble for eternity.
For some this is hard to understand. As the week closes out, I challenge us to spend a little time thinking about the cross and thanking God for providing for us.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God… 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
