We begin this week with one of my oldest encouragements. That is to read daily a chapter of Proverbs. I was first challenged about 20 years ago to do the same. Yesterday was the 9th, and I read Proverbs 9. It overflows with God’s truth.
Here are some verses that stick out to me. I think some of these will speak to you. Or you might want to grab a Bible and read the entire chapter for yourself.
Read a few that grabbed my attention.
Proverbs 9 NLT
Wisdom has built her house;she has carved its seven columns.2 She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table.3 She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city.4 “Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,5 “Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.6 Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live;learn to use good judgment.”
8 So don’t bother correcting mockers;they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you.9 Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.
10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.11 Wisdom will multiply your daysand add years to your life.12 If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.
I separated those into three different pieces because this is how they stick out to me. Read through them again.
Wisdom calls out. Come have a conversation with, enjoy a meal with, learn from wisdom.
Be careful how you throw out truth. Some throw it away while others take it in and learn. May we do the latter.
Finally, where do you find wisdom? It might be in the library or even online. But God is the true beginning, and His wisdom will give us good judgment and even add to our life. There are benefits to taking in God’s wisdom.
I pray that this week will be one of taking in God’s wisdom. I hope it will change us!
