salvation and not judgment

There are some verses that get overlooked. Yet around them are verses that we remember, quote and see all around us. Take a look at these:

John 3:14-17 NLT

And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. 16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

The beauty of the Gospel is explained and held high in John 3:16. We are reminded of God’s love and the gift of His son. That is all that was needed for salvation and eternal life.

But there are a few reminders that come close to home for those of us who follow Jesus. I encourage you to focus on a couple of them today in prayer and in your thinking or meditation.

First, we are to lift up Jesus. Point people to Jesus and the truth of eternal life. This is not the fountain of youth. This is changed lives and forgiveness all tied to God’s love.

Second, salvation is not tied to judgment but to love and grace. Too many people see God as a cosmic judge always ready to hurt people if they mess up. Jesus came to save and not to judge.

We can be assured that our role on earth is the same. We are not judge and we are not alone!

Lift up Jesus. Share His love. By doing that we do what God has called us to do!

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share. For me C.S. Lewis is one of those. He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class. It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before. He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born.
