We have started a new year and a new theme for the new year. It is #2020vision. Yes, that is something lots of churches are doing this year, but I believe we need to know and even refine our vision.
Knowing what God wants and knowing His call helps us be more effective in all areas of like. Here is the key verse for this theme:
Proverbs 29:18 KJV
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Sunday I shared from the different angles of this verse, including looking at how other translations and studies of this verse word it. Really, it was eye opening.
I first heard this verse from a mentor 29 years ago. Fascinating to say the least that one word or thought can be translated so many different ways. But each gives more insight and thought in to how we apply what Solomon meant, or what God led him to write.
Literally without understand or the ability to see people are in trouble. That is the easy way to say it. There were two other translations that stood out to me.

Where there is no understanding of the Word of the Lord, the people do whatever they want to, but happy is he who keeps the law.
The people do what they want. That is the American way or the way of the flesh. Put that with other verses, and it makes sense.
Proverbs 29:18 ERV
If a nation is not guided by God, the people will lose self-control, but the nation that obeys God’s law will be happy.
That goes a lot deeper. Not just a person without vision, but a nation without vision is in trouble.
God desires to be part of our lives and our country and the world. Without His best, His guidance, His truth, His light we are all in serious trouble.
Take some time today to think about true vision from God, and ask God to clarify for you what His vision is for you.
