Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His godly ones.
As I left the visitation last night before the funeral of a friend I realized how close to my age this friend was when cancer finally took his life. It was a surreal feeling. The family has had a special place in my heart for sometime.
God knows our hearts. He knows the people we care about and who are special to us. Read the first above once again.
Why is it special or precious to God when someone dies? That is a tough word to understand. But here is what I know, my friend walked in to heaven when he left earth.
Family and friends will miss him greatly and mourn over his death, but there was a reunion in heaven. My friend, Danny, met the savior and was reunited with others who were already there.
I think about death a lot. It is part of my job as a pastor to be with families in their times of loss. It really is such a difficult time but also one of great need and understanding.
God desires that we not fear death. His desire is that we understand the afterlife. Heaven is real. So is hell real. That is another reason that we need to share how salvation, through what Jesus has done for us, seals our future and gives hope.
I miss my mother who passed away several years ago. Recently Larry from our church passed away which was hard for his family and our church. Just like Danny who was celebrated with a memorial service last night. Each of those knew that God held their future as he holds ours.
Pray for those who are grieving. Pray for those around you that need to know Jesus. Make sure that you are prepared as well for death. Praise God for salvation and the promise of heaven. Life is short.
1 Thessalonians 4:13 NASB
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.
Life is short. Death is real. But God is good and gives us hope!
