Some one asked me recently how I spend time staying close to God. I do that, stay close to God, but I don’t get share that very much. It’s a good day.
Proverbs 6:20-21 NKJV
My son, keep your father’s command, And do not forsake the law of your mother. 21 Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck.
Literally what are the daily disciplines that keep you connected to God. There are several things that mean a lot to me and that God uses to guide me and even guard my life. Each is important to me.
Daily disciplines are the things that God uses to center our lives, fix our focus and elevate our faith to a place where our confidence is hight.
Actually I have been on a journey since my sabbatical began early in the summer. I have always spent time reading the Bible each day, but it wasn’t the same discipline I have chosen since.
Here is what I have been doing:
Reading Proverbs. One chapter each day and start over each month.
Read Psalms. Read one chapter each day continuing until you have read the entire 150 chapters, but I break Psalm 119 in to several days.
Reading through a Bible plan. I read through the Bible each year using a reading plan from the Bible app.
Read a devotional book or a book of prayers.
Spend time praying and go through a simple prayer list.
Here are a couple of things I have going to be adding:
Solitude. Spending quiet time meditating or clearing my head of things that clutter my mind and heart so I can hear God.
Sabbath. One day per week and other extended times, like a weekend a few times a year or an entire week. Disconnect from the norm. Let God refresh you.
There are other disciplines like fasting, serving, fellowship, giving, journaling and more. Each is intended to help us connect to God on a daily basis.
Psalm 126:3 NKJV
The Lord has done great things for us, And we are glad.
I challenge you to do what I am doing. I encourage you to reconnect and stay connected to God. You will enjoy it and be different. Different because God is working in your life.
