God promised us that He would not leave us alone. Through the time Jesus was on earth, He reminded his followers that this life isn’t permanent. He would leave but coming to be with us would be a helper straight from God.
There we find the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. This is the one who gives us power and is always with us. This spirit of God has specific work, and all of it is guiding by the direction of the Father.
John 14:16, 26 NASB
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever; … But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.
The spirit, the one sent from God, will be the helper promised by God who will walk next to and work with each follower of Jesus.
This spirit will teach us and pray for us when we can’t do that ourselves. God knew that we would have great needs and have to rely on someone who can get us through when our own power is limited.
In the Christian church the 50th day after Easter is known as Pentecost. Why is that? It is the day we read about in Acts 2 when Peter was preaching and God gave the Holy Spirit.
Sunday was Pentecost. It is the day that we celebrate God’s gift of the Holy Spirit as well as the place of the church in God’s plan. We are to impact the world as the ambassadors of God all the while filled by and led by the Spirit of God.
What a great day. What a great reminder. We can not live without the Spirit of God.
