simple prayers

Simple prayers.  I just wanted to make sure you know that we need to whisper simple prayers often.  God isn’t looking or listening for big words and lots of talk.  It is our hearts that He is wanted and holding in for.

1 Thessalonians 5:17  NASB

pray without ceasing,

That is why we need to pray.  It is a constant conversation or literally a constant connection with the one who made us, loves us and has the best plan for our lives.  Prayer is the way we connect.  It is also part of the greatest gift that God has given us, His children.

Genuine and simple prayers, our voice and heart directly to God, form us and inform others.

One simple prayer was from Hannah who desperately wanted a child.

1 Samuel 2:2  NASB

There is no one holy like the Lord, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.

That was just part of her prayer.

Another simple prayer we find is from a man we know very little about.  His name was Jabez and this is what he said:

1 Chronicles 4:10  NASB

Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would greatly bless me and extend my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm so that it would not hurt me!” And God brought about what he requested.

A simple prayer that God answered.

A profound and strong yet simple prayer from Paul in his letter to the church in Ephesus teaches me so much.

Ephesians 3:14-19  NASB

For this reason I bend my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner self, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to all the fullness of God.

I like that one.  It seems deep, but the heart of the prayer is that we may be connected to and understand Jesus.  It really is that simple.

On this Thursday I challenge you to stay connected to God in prayer and choose simple prayers.  Just stay connected and watch what God does in your life!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
