sports ministry leaders

Do you know your favorite things?  I do.  Over the last several months I have met some people that bless me and encourage me big time.  Take a look at the picture on this devotion.  Those four men encourage me big time.  One of them I have known for a few years.  The other three I have just men.

Joshua 1:6-7  NLT

“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them.  Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.

These guys are leading sports ministry across the country of Cuba, and their work is having great impact.  To listen to what God is doing through their leaderships amazes and encourages me.

One of the guys has a testimony that caught me off guard when I met him back in May.  Like the relationship between Paul and Timothy, he is a Timothy and is taking the place of the Paul that has led him for several years.  His way is clear, and he is gifted for this work.

Two of the other men I also met in May.  I also met their wives.  They live a long way from Havana and have been working as volunteers before becoming staff of FCA in Cuba.  They have shown themselves faithful, and the ministry they are leading in their towns is leading people to know Christ and to live for him.

The other fellow I met in 2019 when I was with a group that served the sports students at his church.  I was encouraged then.  Now I have spent even more time with him and his wife.

What do these men have in common?  They have lots.  But two things stick out.  First, they are gifted leaders working with sports ministry with a passion to lead people to know Jesus.  Second, they are my friends.  Those things encourage me big time.

Pray for the sports ministry leaders in Cuba.  Alex and his team (Alex isn’t in this picture) are making great strides to grow this ministry and lead coaches and athletes to know and pursue God.

Pray for the country of Cuba and all the needs that they have have.  Ask God to use the sports ministry leaders to meet needs and win the right to talk about Jesus.

Pray for the ministry that is ahead for these men as well for those of us who will be assisting them in so many ways.

I am excited about the trip I just got back from.  I am excited about the future!

Isaiah 43:19  NLT

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness.  I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
