We continue our series “you are made for more” at The Community Fellowship, and I am amazed at what God is doing in my study.
In fact over the last few weeks I have gone down some roads, dug in through study, learning some things are are new and fresh for me. Thank God for His trust, the mystery of His teaching and the confidence on Scripture.
In today’s devotion I share with you some of the verses that stand our in yesterday’s message as we talk about what we fill our lives with. Often we need to empty ourselves of the wrong things and let God fill us with what is right and from Him.
Proverbs 1:19 NLT
Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life.
What greed is about is self, but pure generosity is all about God. Greed doesn’t leave room for God to work in our lives. Here is another example:
Mark 12:41-44 NLT
Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. 42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. 43 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. 44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”
That lady had an understanding of giving that few others have. As Robert Morris says, “we get to give, and it is not we give to get.” Set aside anything based in greed and selfishness.
2 Corinthians 9:6 NLT
Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.
It is true that we will invest in what we believe in. Furthermore we are blessed when we believe that God made us for more, believe for MORE.
Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
We believe that God wants more for us by keeping our eyes on Jesus and removing the things in our lives that keep us from keeping our eyes on Jesus.
Choose more for yourself and those around you. Believe what God says about you and your future. There really is more to come!
