God is working

We closed our series yesterday at The Community Fellowship of “Amazing Grace”.  It has been good to hear the voice of God and how He proclaims and rolls out the flow of His grace in our lives.

There are several things that are true about our faith.  They are rooted in how God first connected to us, and that connection continues with our lives changing.

We aren’t puppets, yet God has a plan.  It is our choice to follow.  It is our desire to know God, to be changed by God and to have a life that makes much of faith and the character of our good and great God.

Matthew 16:24-26  NLT

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

Want to know God or follow Him?  Then make this choice.  Give up our will and our plans for His will.  Take up your cross which is not easy, but that cross changes so many things in our lives and the lives of the people around us.

Romans 3:22  NLT

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

We are made right, have been made right and no matter what Jesus connected us to what lasts and what matters most.  God is woking in our lives each day.

Colossians 2:12  NLT

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.

Again, we have been connected to God, and that connection is strong because it was started by God and is held by God.  Praise God for His work in our lives.

I close with this big and important verse.  Our goal is love.  We are to love others the way God loves people.  Speak up.  Share often.  Watch God work more and more in our lives and in the lives of the people around us.

1 Corinthians 14:1  NLT

Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives—especially the ability to prophesy.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
