We continue to study the book of Romans at The Community Fellowship, and one of the most important parts of the book is dealing with the struggles of being human.
In fact the last few messages have been difficult as the problem of sin and humanity tries to justify themselves without knowing Jesus. The Apostle Paul takes a great deal of time and effort to convince the Jews in Rome of their issue of using the law to be closer to God than Gentiles.
Take some time to look at a few of the things that yesterday’s message from Romans 3:1-20 brought up.
Mark 8:36 NLT
And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
Without Jesus we are sunk, in trouble and will not find our way to God. As that verse says we gain nothing and lose our soul, or ourselves. That is not where it ends.
Galatians 3:22 NLT
But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.
All humans are prisoners of sin until Jesus sets of free. Freedom is one of the most powerful things that we can hold and be held by. The choice is ours. Stay tied up by sin or live free by the grace of God.
Romans 7:14 NLT
So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.
One of the boldest statements from yesterday’s sermon is this one. Paul boldly says the problem is him. He is what stands in his own way of being a man of faith, changed by God and doing what is right. That kind of humility will get you a lot further than any thing else.
Galatians 2:16 NLT
Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.”
Stop trying to change yourself and let God do what He does best. We find freedom and faith when we are trusting God for it all.
