Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.

What has your attention? Take a close, up close look at all the things that distract you, the things that make you mad, the stuff that makes you glad and anything that keeps your gaze and your mind for more than just a few seconds.

I listened to a message this week from an incredible preacher that talked about how our phones have completely grabbed our attention. And he talked about many other things to.

But what caught my attention (did you hear that) the most was the importance of letting God be who gets and takes your attention. The verse above is a promise. Delight in God, and He fulfills your desires.

How can that be true? It is. Whatever we look at longing and lovingly we become like.

In his message Andrew Forrest reminded us that choosing to put our mind on God does make a difference. Further, he shared somethings that should help us and even be non negotiable in what we allow to have our attention. Here are a few of the things.

Go to church! Even when you are away, choose to worship. Visit another church, watch online, gather with some folks to pray and read Scripture. Don’t substitute online for in person church either.

Read Scripture! Every day choose to spend some time in the Word of God. There are all kinds of reading plans. Or just reach a chapter in Proverbs and something from another book of the Bible.

Pray! Focus some time on God. Maybe even take something like the Lord’s prayer and use it. Use one line of it.

Choose to focus on God. It will make a difference. Choosing what gets our attention rather than letting just anything have our attention is vital for Christian. By focusing on God and our faith, God will work in and around our lives each and every day!

One song says, “and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” That hymn is “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”.

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns. One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns. wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow. He served. He valued and gave value to others. That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet. It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives. Jesus said we should do this. See the verse above. Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
