No system is
perfect. Lots and lots of businesses,
organizations and families have flaws.
But have you ever tried to find the good in people or in difficult
situations?
This week has been a
difficult one for our community. On
Monday a bomb threat was reported at one of our local high schools, and
yesterday a threat was found at the middle school near us. In both situations the schools were
evacuated. These are difficult situations
that many, many people have had to deal.
Above all and first I
want to say how proud I am of our county school and their response to this
effort. Also local law enforcement and
others did an excellent job. As a
parent, a community member, a concerned situation and a friend I am grateful
that our students were well cared for and safe throughout the situation.
It really is a sad
time when these threats come through as a hoax by students. Actually in a near by county another school
received the same threat. How do you
handle such an incident is what many in our region are discussing during this
time.
My sharing with you
today is not a political statement or some opinion letter. What I want to say is that our communities
need great people leader, great people who care. Often times people wait to say anything until
they are upset. Tempers fly. Opinions are shared. Little is accomplished. But when good people get together to do great
things our communities get stronger.
Whether we are dealing
my passion of helping those who live in poverty or counseling someone in a difficult
time or dealing with current events, gifted and caring people need to step up
to serve. Don’t leave it for someone
else. When you feel a tug in a
direction, step out. When you see a need
and know you could handle it, get involved.
The options seem like
this: you can complain or you can be silent or you can make a difference.
I am choosing to make
a difference. It may start with more
time in prayer, but it will end up with being a servant in some way or
form. This means that my community is important
to me.
