I started a new series a couple weeks ago at The Community Fellowship, and this past Sunday we looked at the way our “good God” dealt with the storm the disciples found themselves in. He called the storm and calmed His followers.
One of the reasons He calmed the storm was His kindness. I have been looking at the different ways that the kindness of God comes out in Scripture, and once again I am overwhelmed by how awesome our God is. He is more than kind. That just scratches the surface.
Here are some things that we learn about the kindness of God.
Romans 2:4 NLT
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?
His kindness draws us closer to Him. That is the way God designed it.
2 Corinthians 6:1 NLT
As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.
His gift of life, eternal life, comes bathed in His kindness. Be careful not to ignore it or overlook it.
Ephesians 2:7 NLT
So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.
The kindness of God is pointed in a particular direction. It is pointed intentionally by God toward you and toward me.
Titus 3:4-7 NLT
But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.
His salvation, the huge gift of abundant and everlasting life, is revealed with the kindness of God. It sits with His righteousness. His kindness is delivered often by His spirit. Kindness is generously poured out on His children, you and me. Finally, His kindness gives us confidence to live following and fueled by faith in the Father who loves us so very much.
1 Peter 5:10 NLT
In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.
That is almost it. His kindness is more than we will ever know. The kindness of God is ours because we have a good God that loves us so much!
