serving at the speedway

Over the next serval days I will get to serve with a great team at Martinsville Speedway as NASCAR is in town.  Three races.  Lots of fans.  So many snacks and cups of coffee.  Helping ADA fans.  And so much more.

Why do we do this?  Why do we volunteer our times, energy and efforts?  Thanks for asking.

Serving them

Galatians 5:13  NLT

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But donā€™t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

The best way to let someone know that God loves them is to serve them.  The greatest way to find your passion in life is to serve others.  That is why we serve!

Sharing with them

1 Thessalonians 2:8  NLT

We loved you so much that we shared with you not only Godā€™s Good News but our own lives, too.

Good news.  The best news of all is that God loves people, and we serve and share so that people will come to know God.  We get to have conversations about the one who matters most.  That is Jesus.  That is why we share!

Savoring the moments

Ephesians 5:16  NLT

Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.

We live in a broken world where evil is all around us.  People need to know that there is still good in the world and still people who care.  Because every moment has been given to us as a gift we savor the moments and use them wisely!

Savior for all

John 3:16  NLT

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

It really is that simple.  We love because God loved us.  We share because Jesus died for us.  We savor the moments because we have the opportunity to let others know that they matter because God loves each and every one.  We serve because of the goodness of God and His gift of a Savior!

Join us at the speedway if you are in the area.  Thursday through Sunday there are lots of opportunities.  Sunday at 10am Raceway Ministries will have a worship service that will encourage race fans to come to know Jesus.  Through each day we will have conversations about our Savior with the people we will interact with.

Pray for Raceway Ministries and those of us serving at Martinsville Speedway this week!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciplesā€™ feet, drying them with the towel he had around himā€¦ 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each otherā€™s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
