get real // Wednesday E-Devotion

Proverbs 21:2-3 (NLT) --- People may be right in their own eyes, but the L ord examines their heart. The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices.

Don't hide anything. God knows it all. We are told that everything will be opened up and seen. God knows it already, and it time for the people of the world to see the people of the church be real. The world needs and the world wants people who are genuine.

I heard a quote years ago that comes right from scripture (it was attributed to Adrian Rogers): "Whatever we uncover, God will cover, and whatever we cover, God will uncover." That is a word about sin and motives. That is a real word for the church today and her leaders. If we want success....if we want to touch the world, we don't need to try to be something we are not. It is time to be who God made us to be and nothing else. Get real and let the world see it all. Get right with God and let Him use you in big ways.

Here are some quotes about integrity:

H. Jackson Brown, Jr. --- Live so that when your children think of fairness and integrity, they think of you.

Alfred Lord Tennyson --- My strength is as the strength of ten, because my heart is pure.

Andrew Carnegie --- No amount of ability is of the slightest avail without honor.

J.C. Watts --- Character is doing the right thing when nobody's looking. There are too many people who think that the only thing that's right is to get by, and the only thing that's wrong is to get caught.

Henry Ford --- Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.

In closing, we have to ask ... what do we treasure? Would I rather be loved by people or by God? Would I rather people think I am OK or for God to know I am OK? Truth is, only God matters. That is when things are right between me and God, everything will fall into place with others.

Let's get real with God and let our integrity be a lifestyle that draws people to know God.

We are in the middle of a series at church titled "Jesus in My Space", and our tagline is this: "It is time to get out of our space and get into other's space so God can get them into His space." Get real. It matters.

Proverbs 21:30-31 (NLT) --- No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the L ord. The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.

Francis Chan's "Forgotten God" (brand new book)

One of the most powerful preachers, writers and leaders of our time, in my opinion, is Francis Chan.  His first book, Crazy Love , revolutionized my thoughts about God's love as well as my interacting with God.  Now it is time for a brand new book from Chan being released tomorrow, September 1st.  The book is Forgotten God .   This is a phenomenal book about the power that Christians and the church can and must tap into.  All of it is within the Holy Spirit.  Francis talks about the power that was seen in the book of Acts when the Holy Spirit began to move among people.  It is true that many have avoided or maybe forgotten what the Holy Spirit is all about.   And like the Savior who poured out His life and blood so we have reason to rejoice, we were made to lay down our lives and give until it hurts.  We are most alive when we are loving and actively giving of ourselves because we were made to do these things.  It is when we live like this that the Spirit of God moves and ac...

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share.  For me C.S. Lewis is one of those.  He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class.  It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before.  He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born.  It wasn’t until his 30’s that under the influence of his friend Tolkien that he came to be a Christian.  He was raised in a traditional church going home, turned away from God as an Atheist in his teen years and through trying to stay away from God and faith returned to God with...
