Good Friday


Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it seems like anything but?  Jesus was treated like a criminal.  He was beaten so much so that no one could recognize Him.  The pain that Jesus endured is too much for me to handle when I read the Scripture or see a movie similar to the Passion of the Christ.

Yet it is a good day.  It is good because what Jesus endured that day took our pain and punishment from us. There are some words that come to mine:

Redemption and Redeemer

Pain and Punishment

Righteousness and Reality

Savior and Life

All of those lead us to take another look at the cross.  It was meant for the worst of the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior that never broke a single law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price that doing wrong would cost.  Yet looking on the cross means life for us.  The cross means sacrifice in our place and for us.  

The reality of the cross is that death must come, but we know that death does not win.  Life wins.  Resurrection will happen.  Friday brought an end to life, but Friday is not the end.  Sunday will get the last word with an empty tomb and a living Savior.

1 Corinthians 1:18  NLT
The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

1 John 3:16  NLT
We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Good Friday reminds us that God is good!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
