Friday and Blessings

It is Friday.  One of my favorite days of the week.  I woke today thinking about the blessings that have come in to my life.  That is why I have chosen to give you and I a simple list of some.  Each one has a special place in my heart.

Read on and make your own list of blessings.  Here they go:

Proverbs 18:22  NASB

He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the Lord.

If you know my Julie, you know this already.  She lives for others and goes far beyond what is expected.  Her heart is huge.  She is quiet and so wise.  I am blessed to have her as my wife.

Psalm 127:4-5 NASB

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.   How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

Our children continue to amaze me.  First, I am amazed at how fast they have grown.  Second, our girls have grown so much they have moved on, married and are doing well.  I miss being able to hug them each day.  Third, our son is a senior in high school.  He has grown and is letting us watch him do so well.  I am proud of our children and pray daily for their success, their protection and for them to stay close and get closer to God.

Proverbs 27:17  NASB

Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another.

This coronavirus has sought to separate friends and keep us by ourselves.  It might have worked at times, but it does not work.  I am grateful for the blessings of friends who stay close, those who encourage me, those who we have made memories together and spent time praying together.  There is more time coming.  I pray for these, especially the men who have walked with me Spiritually.

Deuteronomy 32:4  NASB

“The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.

That’s it.  The last one I will share today.  I am grateful for my God.  He is faithful and His work is perfect.  He never forgets and is always working in places where I see empty or useless.  Our God shows up and shows off.  Our God is close to us when we are broken and celebrates with us when we are excited.  I am blessed because of my God.

If I continued, you read about our church that I am so grateful for this blessing.  You will hear about the work that Julie and I are blessed with.  You would be reading about our families by blood, those in Georgia and Texas, that we love and miss.  So many more cross my mind.

That is a small list.  What and who are you grateful for today?

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
