connecting to God

Our connection to God is a promise that we claim. It is based on His love for us and the gift of His son. There is more to faith than going to church or living right. In fact those two things are the outcome of our faith.

I encourage us today today to remember what calling our to God does to us. There are some choices we make that change us and the people around us.

Here are a few verses that will help us understand our connection to God. Take these at the the value of what you see. Then apply them. Promises from God and warnings should be held close.

2 Timothy 2:22 NLT

Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

Simply put, stay away from wrong. Stay close to God. Enjoy time with people who know and love God. Those people will help you stay close.

Deuteronomy 10:12 NLT

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.

God requires or desires that we fear God. Live for Him and do what pleases God. Those things do not make us better people, but they do show the outcome of our faith rightly places in God.

Psalm 34:17 NLT

The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.

That connection is real. That is why we can call on God, we can pray when we need help, and the response and promise of God is His rescue. He wants to show up and help the people who are His.

Isaiah 59:1 NLT

Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call.

Those are some big promises and great reminders. Hold this truth!

God’s arm is strong and ready to safe us.

God’s ears are open and ready to hear our call.

There you have our connection to God that changes us, the people around us and the goodness of God. Our faith isn’t a probability. Our faith is a promise to hold on to.

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns. One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns. When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her. Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved. Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?" Beverly said, "Why yes I do." wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow. He served. He valued and gave value to others. That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet. It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives. Jesus said we should do this. See the verse above. Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
