Let me introduce you to an old friend.  I first met Dwane when we were serving those coming out of prison and integrating back in to communities.  His heart for God and others has been refreshing.  Recently be became the pastor of a church in our community, and I am grateful for his ministry, encouragement, compassion and friendship.


Today’s e-devotion is from Dwane Massenburg who leads Christians United and is pastor of St. Paul High Street Baptist Church in Martinsville.  Enjoy what he shared today…


Holy Heavenly Father, we come to You today recognizing Your omniscience. The Bible says You know the hairs on our head, Lord. Your Bible says that You know our hearts and our thoughts. Your vantage point is different from ours, Father. You know everything about us.


A group of cars, trees, and a city street are nothing unusual to write home about. We have all seen them before. However, if one changes the vantage point, the things that can be learned from the view are totally different. This picture (the one at the beginning of this e-devotion) is from just four stories high. We can only imagine what You can see from beyond the stars.


Psalm 33:13-15 KJV

"The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works." 


Psalm 102:19-21 KJV

"For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the Lord behold the earth. To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death. To declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem." 


Yes, Lord, You see the evil in our hearts that we may try to hide and the needs of all humanity across the Earth, at the same time. Your wisdom and Your perspective are beyond our comprehension, Father. You have a totally different view. We pray that we always respect that. We bow before You, Lord. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

 

And in closing, a personal note:  Pray for back2school.  Two locations in South Carolina (Clifton and Welford) will serve tomorrow.  Next Tuesday at pack backpacks at 6pm.  Next weekend all other sites will be serving students.  Pray for students, their families and all those serving!  There is a place for you in back2school 2026 …

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
