hold on to the promises

We concluded our series “like Him” at church yesterday, and I am reminded of all the things that Peter taught us in his first letter.  But what sticks out the most is that faith and his time with Jesus impacted Peter’s life forever.

God has do that for all of us who know Him and who follow Him.  The promises are ours.  Keep them close.  Don’t let a day go by that you don’t thank God.

2 Peter 1:4  NLT

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

His promises are for us, and they are great.  Yes, there will be struggles.  Yes, there will be things we do not understand, but His promises are for us!

2 Corinthians 1:7  NLT

We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us.

The struggles will not last.  And the struggle will be followed by God’s comfort.

2 Timothy 4:8  NLT

And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

That is a huge prize.  It will not be ours till heaven.  But take a few minutes to think about the crown of righteousness.  It comes because of salvation which was the gift of God through Jesus.  We are changed.  That’s a real promise.

James 4:6  NLT

And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Choose humility.  Go look at 1 Peter 5 and see how it works.  Promises come to those who choose to humble themselves before God.

Now it is our turn to help others experience and know the promises of God.

Hebrews 12:15  NLT

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.
