Leaders are important. Good leaders are vital to every
institution. Godly, good leaders are
ones who have chosen to take up a call from God and seize opportunities to help
others grow strong!
Deuteronomy 1:13

Choose some well-respected men from each tribe who
are known for their wisdom and understanding, and I will appoint them as your leaders.’
Yesterday I listened to Pastor Jim Carter from Riverside Church in
Lynchburg, Virginia share insights he has gained over four decades of leading
inside and outside of a church setting.
Here are some of the notes I took that spoke to me. Read on and enjoy!
Make sure the well is dig deep and correct to give the best water
it can as it gives life. Often enemies
will fill the well with debris. It is harder
to re-dig the well than to dig it the first time.
Find your purpose.
Don’t just do something because you think God said so. Many
times you want to walk away. Know why you are doing what you do.
Always take a servant role.
Never assume you are too good or too big to something.
Take every opportunity to ask questions of the wise.
Take people to lunch and ask questions. Learn from sitting with
wise people.
Humility is the key to the resolution of any conflict and will
open doors for you.
Embrace integrity.
Never compromise the word. Never weaken your stand.
Respect each person you meet.
Honor folks. Guide. Expect. Live well.
Love freely.
Great leaders continue to do what they’ve always done even to
the point they are misunderstood.
See the difference between your position and your practice.
A leader reveals that battles always come that strategic places
and at inconvenient times. Some reason
there’s a challenge or difficulty in a church:
People respond in fear, May come because of demonic attack, Sometimes
it’s from a lack of communication.
When you are 1 Step ahead, you are a leader. If you are 9 steps ahead, you are a martyr.
Always give people a heads up. Communicate well. If you don’t prepare the people well they
will respond in difficulty. Don’t allow
misinformed people to determine the guidelines of your life.
The greatest congregation I have is my wife and children, and the
greatest thing I can do is to teach men how to lead theirs.
Always be willing to ask a question. That question might take an organization or people
in a new direction that changes their destiny.
Even when you don’t understand you can trust the fathers love.
