keep on running

1 Corinthians 9:24  NLT

Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!

Running is something that I enjoy.  It started for me about 18 months ago as I started to live healthier and to loose weight.  Running and walking is part of almost every day of life.

And this is also something of our spiritual life.  God uses the analogy of running speaking of how we follow God and pursue what He says is best for our lives.  It is not about pursing or going after stuff or a certain way of life.  It really is about running after God or running with God.

Have you ever gotten stopped by someone or some thing?  We all have.  The distractions of life are very real for all of us.  We have to be careful to not let things keep us from what really is important.

Galatians 5:7-8  NLT

You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? 8 It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom.

That verse has some to my mind so many times that I keep coming back to it examining the fact that our enemy, Satan described in John 10:10 as a thief, is doing everything in his power to keep us from running after God.

What keeps you from running to God?  There might be many answers you can give, but the root is much the same for all of us.  And the choice is yours to keep following after God.

Keep on running.  Don’t stop.  Pursue the God who loves you most, who stays with you always and who gave His only son to take our place.  Pursue the God who has a plan for our good and His glory.  Run to Him when things are good or when they are bad.

Run the race and watch how God does what only God can do.  Keep on running.

Hebrews 12:1  NLT

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
