share the good news

Once again our team has the honor of serving at Martinsville Speedway this weekend through Raceway Ministry Martinsville. We are committed to loved people because of a few important reasons.

First, God loves people. Second, people matter to God, and third, lots of people are coming to our community. We have been blessed with an opportunity to share.

Did you hear that? We have an opportunity to share about Jesus. And it is the Gospel, the Good News about Jesus, that we get to share this weekend.

Mark 8:35 NASB

For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.

Have we accepted what God has given us? The GOSPEL is the single most important part of our faith. This is a very simple truth that we get to share with others.

Easter was this past weekend, and it we learned about Him … Jesus is the son of God sent to the world to deal will our sin by the grace of God. He lived on earth as fully man and fully God after being born of a virgin, making him uniquely perfect. He was killed by being placed on a cross. Three days later Jesus rose from the dead. Now he is in heaven because His work of salvation is complete.

That is the good news. That is the most important of all the pieces of what God has given us. Without the Gospel we would not have the salvation that we talked about this week.

We are uniquely called, as God’s people, to share with people that need the Gospel. And God loves people. The Gospel must be at the center. Without it we miss our reason for existing, we lose our power, and we are empty of our God given purpose and useless.

Romans 1:16 NASB

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

May we share what is most important as we interact with people each day. Why? Because God loves people!

Francis Chan's "Forgotten God" (brand new book)

One of the most powerful preachers, writers and leaders of our time, in my opinion, is Francis Chan. His first book, Crazy Love , revolutionized my thoughts about God's love as well as my interacting with God. Now it is time for a brand new book from Chan being released tomorrow, September 1st. The book is Forgotten God . This is a phenomenal book about the power that Christians and the church can and must tap into. All of it is within the Holy Spirit. Francis talks about the power that was seen in the book of Acts when the Holy Spirit began to move among people. It is true that many have avoided or maybe forgotten what the Holy Spirit is all about. And like the Savior who poured out His life and blood so we have reason to rejoice, we were made to lay down our lives and give until it hurts. inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share. For me C.S. Lewis is one of those. He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class. It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before. He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born. It wasn’t until his 30’s that under the influence of his friend Tolkien that he came to be a Christian.
