ministry at the speedway

It was over 222 years ago that I first had the opportunity to serve with the Raceway Ministries Martinsville team, and it is an incredible opportunity. Since then I have had the honor of serving with Raceway Ministries in various ways. It is an honor to share Jesus with race fans at the speedway.

This stuff happens at races all over the world. There are men and women giving their time to serve the racing community. They offer worship services, counseling, refreshments, Jesus conversations and more. I have met so many people committed to making a difference in a place where few others will go.

In Martinsville our team offers several different things, and it is also a blessing to work along side the leaders and team of Martinsville Speedway. Sunday morning before the race this weekend there will be a worship service for race fans. We will have a team of cart drivers helping fans with special needs. One of my favorite things are the conversations we have with people from so many different places. Talking about Jesus never gets old, and you might be surprised to know that many people are so open to talk about him.

Why go to the speedway? There are plenty of reasons not to go. The race is on Sunday and keeps our volunteers from attending their own church. Often it is cold or raining, really hot or even snowing. There are also plenty of reasons to go to the speedway.

1 Corinthians 9:22 NASB

To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees.

Telling people that God loves them is something that we can do in many different ways. Serving people opens the door to help others see and hear God. Our lives offer hope to those in need.

Join us at the speedway. Come serve with us if you would like. But please pray that many will hear about God’s love for them, and they will allow God to change their lives.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns. One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns. When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her. Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved. Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?" Beverly said, "Why yes I do." wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow. He served. He valued and gave value to others. That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet. It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives. Jesus said we should do this. See the verse above. Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
