mid week of Easter

 


Mid week of one of the most important weeks of the year.  Here we are, and how we think of the week, the influence of Jesus and what is to come does make a difference.


One of the most troubling parts of the easter story is the fact that one of the closest people to Jesus gave Him up for a little bit of money.  We don’t know all that was in Judas’ mind at the time, but do know that he struggled with the money around the ministry of Jesus.


Most likely Judas was stealing from the money box.  He was often stirred up about the way money was used or the way people were acting around Jesus.


The only person that really knew Judas’ motives was Jesus.  The religious leaders used Judas.


Like Judas our outlook on Jesus does make a difference.  None of us want to be equated to Judas or like him, yet the truth is we have all acted the way he did or thought what Judas had going through his mind.


My point is that the best thing we can do is to have a proper view of Jesus and seek to do allow God to sift our motives, mold our hearts and guide our ways.  The way for this to happen is to spend time with God.


Jesus was always spending time with God.  


Deuteronomy 8:6  NLT  

So obey the commands of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and fearing him.


Be honest about Judas.  He might have been used by the wrong people, but Judas is part of the story of the greatest event of all of history.  Sad because of betrayal and deception.  Sweet because Jesus did for us what we could not do for ourselves.

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
