One of the joys in life is to make your parents proud and to honor them. You might have had a different experience growing up. I was blessed in so many ways.
This week is one of those times where I have am having lots of memories flood my mind as I spend some time with my brothers finish clearing out our parents home. This is not easy, yet all around us are signs of blessings as well as memories that we will cherish.
We choose to honor our parents. God gave them to us. We miss mom and dad very much, and they taught us so many things. Lots of laughs and even tears are expected through this process.
That is why I want to remind you to honor your parents in every way you can. There are lots of reasons to do just that.
Exodus 20:12 NLT
“Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
That is actually one of the 10 commandments. It is not a suggestion.
Matthew 19:19 NLT
Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as yourself.
That time is came from Jesus, and He put a new commandment with it.
Ephesians 6:2-3 NLT
“Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
Paul put that in the middle of talking about the family and right before he taught us about putting on the armor of God. It must be important. Family is important.
Proverbs 1:8 NLT
My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
Proverbs 23:22 NLT
Listen to your father, who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old.
Another important word from the wisdom of Proverbs. Listen, honor and do not neglect your parents.
May we care for and honor those who have cared for us!
