quotes that make me stop and think

Today all I am going to share with you are some quotes.   These and many like them take hold of my thinking and even of my heart.   Some preachers catch my attention more than others. These men have caught my attention.   A couple of them are from my history.   Others are more current, but each makes me stop in my tracks and think.   The church and Christians need to stop and think.   Our faith must increase. I remember reading from Henry Blackaby that the reason the world is not seeing God in the church is because the church is not attempting things that only God can do (not a direct quote but comes from his book Experiencing God ). As you read on I pray God speaks to our hearts and that we will be challenged: I believe that one reason why the church of God at this present moment has so little influence over the world is because the world has so much influence over the church. --- Charles Spurgeon The quickest way to forget about ...

knowledge or love

Today’s post is a reprinted article from churchleaders.com and is by Francis Chan.   The original article can be found at THIS LINK .   Here is the article, and I pray this will give you much to think about as it did me.   Read on… Knowledge is essential, but it’s not sufficient. It takes knowledge for me to write this. We need to think. We must know the truth. But knowledge alone is not sufficient for the Christian life. It’s not enough just to have knowledge. That’s why Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:2 : “If I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” Think hard . But know that it’s not enough. Paul says even if he had all knowledge but didn’t love, he would amount to nothing. In other words, you can be brilliant and worthless. It would be like a great basketball player who never misses a shot but keeps shooting into the opponent’s basket. He...

who's at the center?

Hebrews 12:2   NLT We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Who is at the center of our lives?   That is not an easy question to answer because most of us know the right answers and what ought to be.   Yet when we step back and get honest it is evident that Jesus is not at the center of our lives. One of my favorite authors and preachers is Francis Chan.   I’d like to share some quote from his book Crazy Love and one from a sermon he preached.   Chan knows haw to communicate in way that gets me thinking.   Read on… “God is not just one thing we add to the mix called life. He wants an invitation from us to permeate everything and every part of us.” ― Francis Chan , Forgotten God: Reversing Our Tragic Neglect of the Holy Spirit Everything and every...
