listen up

It is vital that we listen to what God says.   Hear what God says and follow Him.  To make sure this is the path you are on, keep focused on God.  The impact of following God changes us and those around us.  That is why is it is important to listen up.   Exodus 13:21  NIV   By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.   God provides for His people.  That includes you and me.  He guides us no matter the time, no matter the weather and always leads in the right direction.  He did it for others, and He will do this for us.  But are we listening and following God?   Learn to listen up.  Keep following.  Walk this truth out by knowing the Word of God that helps us to be aligned with His will and His plan.   Psalm 89:15-16  NIV   Blessed are those who have learned t...

meditate on God's word

Colossians 3:16  NASB Let the   word   of   Christ   richly   dwell   within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms   and   hymns   and   spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. The Word of God makes us understand life and love in greater ways.  It opens the possibility of peace and strength, of wisdom and compassion, of acceptance and forgiveness, and so much more. That is another reason to spend time in God’s word.  It literal changes us.  More correctly, God changes us! One of my favorite devotional writers is Henri Nouwen.  Here is a recent devotion from his email list titled Meditation.  This is powerful… When Jesus says: "Sky and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away" (Luke 21:33), he shows us a direct way to eternal life. The words of Jesus have the power to transform our hear...

every day in Proverbs

This past Sunday was the first day of the New Year, and I challenged our church to join me to read the Bible every day.  To have God’s Word as part of your life may change you and those around you. Proverbs is the book that I point people to the most as I did on Sunday.  It has 31 chapters as there are 31 days in a month.  Take a chapter per day and let God speak in to your life.  The wisdom you read and think through might change that day or even your life. That is why I share with you parts of Proverbs 3 from yesterday’s reading with the hope that this will challenge you to read the Word daily. 1-6 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for   length of days and years of life and   peace they will add to you.   Let not   steadfast love and   faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.   So you will   find ...

reasons for reading the Bible

Psalm 119:11   NLT I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Each day I continue to use the YouVersion.com devotions to feed my spirit.   Yesterday was another great day, and thus I am sharing with you Day 17 of 30 of “Life on Mission”.   I pray this will encourage you as it did me… I was speaking at a youth conference in Australia to about 50 youth. At one point, I asked them to all shout their name so I could hear them; all the kids screamed at once. The sound was chaotic. It rattled the windows and forced people to cover their ears. I couldn’t differentiate a single name. I then asked one girl to stand up in the back. On the count of three everyone else was to shout “Noise.” She was to shout her name. I counted to three and listened intently. Literally, through the noise, I heard her say Sharon. I heard her voice because I was intentional about disregarding the noise. The point is this, there is so much noise in the world...
