a mother's influence

One of the sweetest days of the year is Mother’s Day, yet it is also a day that comes with so many emotions  Many have lost their mother or may have lost a child.  It is this day that reminds us that there are people who have poured in to our lives that have made a difference in our lives. There are many of those in my life.  From my mom, to my wife, to so many other ladies through the year that have made me a better person.  Scripture is clear that godliness and Christ-likeness are vitally important.  Think about it. Proverbs 31:28-29  NLT   Her children stand and bless her.  Her husband praises her: 29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” It is in Proverbs 31 where we find so much about the women who have made us stronger and strengthened our faith in God.  Hey are some things that stick out in this chapter: A godly person must be a person that can be trusted (see verse 11).  A...

mother's day and more

What an incredible couple weeks I have had.  Thank you for allowing me a little time away from sharing these e-devotions.  I will try to catch up over the next week with some notes about the trip to Cuba as well as some encouraging words. Yesterday was Mother’s Day which is one of the most special days of the year.  I have been blessed with a great family.  I miss my mom.  She passed away in 2015.  My mom was an example of so much… loving God and her family, wisdom and serving.   Further I have been blessed to have a great wife, Julie, and many other ladies who have been examples and encouragements.   There are so many things about these special ladies.  Here are some of the verses that stick out about godly women: Proverbs 31:28-31 NLT “ Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fe...

Mother's Day

I am blessed with some very special people in my life.  It is Mother’s Day weekend, and that means the people I am thinking about are some great and inspiring ladies… my mom, my wife, my mother in law, my daughters and many more. I begin with my mom.  She was amazing.  My mom was that and more.  There is almost no one else like mom. She is the one who accepts you, holds you and keeps you going when others aren’t around.  I miss my mom.  It has been over 5 years since she moved to heaven.  And no one could take this precious lady’s place. I want to say a very special “Happy Mother’s Day” to Ann Harrison, my bonus mom or step mom who makes my dad very happy… and thank you for being part of our family and for helping my dad enjoy life! Proverbs 1:8 NLT My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. Another special lady in my life is my mother-in-law, Sandra. It has...

I am blessed

Today’s post is more personal than most. From time to time I share about our family, our joy and the blessings of God.  Today is one of those. We are so excited to be headed to the college where our middle child has spent the last 2 and half years getting her degree.  Ruth has made her mother and I extremely proud.  She is the second of our children to complete her college degree and to do so in great fashion. Ruth, your hard work and all our prayers have paid off.  Thank you for being strong.  You are smart.  We are so proud of you!  Congratulations on your graduation from the College of William and Mary!!! As I said Ruth’s mother and I are so proud of her.  Alone I would be in trouble.  I have a partner in crime, a travel companion, a friend and so much more in my wife, Julie.  She is the epitome of Mother’s Day.  I am grateful for her and her hard work....

Proverbs 31 truth

Mother’s Day is one of the most special days of the year, and for some people it is the toughest day of year.  Those of us who have lost our mothers have a whole in their lives, yet I know where my mom is.  One day I will see her again in heaven.  I am, as you must be, blessed with the person God have me as a mom. The most “go to” passage about moms is where we turn to today, Proverbs 31, and one of the reasons that I asked Julie to join me sharing with our church yesterday is so we can really get a true Mother’s Day Perspective from a real mom.  I can tell you from my thoughts and the Scripture, but she can give you her experience. Let’s jump in and look at some of the verses from Proverbs 31! Proverbs 31 NLT 10-12  Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies.  Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.  She brings him good, not harm, all the days of...

she is all that

She is amazing.  My mom was that.  What I know and most people do is that there is almost no one else like mom. She is one who accepts us, holds us and keeps us going when few others are around. I miss my mom.  It has been about 2 and half years since my mom moved her home to heaven.  She is missed by our family and those who knew and loved her, but I wouldn’t have this any other way.  My mom would be so pleased with my dad and my brothers.  And no one could take this precious lady’s place. As you know my dad remarried a little over a month ago, and Ann is a great lady.  I want to say a very special “Happy Mother’s Day” to Ann Harrison, and thank you for being part of our family and for helping my dad enjoy life! Proverbs 1:8 NLT My child,   listen   when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your   mother’s instruction. Another very special lady in my life is my mother...
